Second international ARAG DAY for more access to justice

Additional focus on health and sport in Germany

The insurance group ARAG organized the second international ARAG Day on September 27. Once again, the focus was on free activities on legal topics for specific target groups – in Germany and at ARAG’s international locations. “The premiere in 2023 was a complete success. Once again this year, we helped many people with their legal problems who often have no opportunity to do so. This once again underscores the importance of free access to justice,” emphasizes Dr. Renko Dirksen, Speaker of the Management Board of ARAG SE.

Equal access to justice is explicitly enshrined in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN). They aim to promote socially, economically and ecologically sustainable development. “Equal opportunities before the law is part of ARAG’s DNA and an integral part of our corporate strategy. As the world’s leading legal insurer, we are actively promoting rights, equal opportunities and a sustainable transformation of society with our ARAG Day,” emphasizes Dr. Renko Dirksen. While ARAG SE and its international units focused on legal aspects, the subsidiaries ARAG Krankenversicherungs-AG (health insurance) and ARAG Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG (property & casualty insurer) organized appropriate events with their own focal points.

Legal advice at Tafel Düsseldorf e. V. and SOS-Kinderdorf Düsseldorf
At the second ARAG Day in Germany, ARAG SE once again offered its customers free legal advice at the two food bank locations of “Tafel Düsseldorf e. V.” in Düsseldorf Garath and Hassels. For the first time, independent lawyers additionally provided advice on legal issues relating to social, tenancy, immigration and family law as well as general assistance at the multi-generational house of SOS-Kinderdorf (SOS Children’s Village) in Düsseldorf Garath. “Our children, young people and families in the multi-generation house at the SOS-Kinderdorf in Düsseldorf often have legal issues in addition to their daily financial worries and hardships – whether it’s about maintenance, tenancy law or problems with the authorities. The inhibition threshold to ask for legal assistance is very high because many fear possible costs or simply cannot cope with the bureaucratic challenges. That’s why we very much welcome this low-threshold and free offer from ARAG,” emphasizes Frank Dille, responsible for marketing, communication and fundraising at SOS-Kinderdorf Düsseldorf.

Free legal support also at the international ARAG locations
The international ARAG locations again focused on campaigns for special target groups for whom free access to the law is not possible – usually for financial reasons. For example, ARAG Ireland worked with its partner, the charitable organization ALONE, to provide legal advice to elderly people in need. HELP, the Scandinavian legal insurer within the ARAG Group, participated in ARAG Day for the first time this year. Together with its partner ID-Juristen, the main company of HELP in Norway provided legal advice to disadvantaged people on the topic of identity theft. The Danish HELP subsidiary and its partner Dansk Stalking Center focused on victims of stalking and cyberbullying.

ARAG Kranken and ARAG Allgemeine with their own events on ARAG Day
Outside of the legal insurance segment, the two other major German ARAG subsidiaries organized their own ARAG Day events – each with their own special focus. ARAG Krankenversicherungs-AG offered a Mental Health Day with five workshops to young people in the 7th and 8th grades of a regional secondary school. These were conducted by experts from cooperation partner DEIN MÜNCHEN (YOUR MUNICH) on the topics of resilience and inner strength, bullying, dealing with stress, yoga and breathing, and better sleep. ARAG Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG is also Germany’s largest sports insurer. Following the great success of the first ARAG Sports Challenge in Lower Saxony last year, it organized the second ARAG Sports Challenge together with the sports club TSG GutsMuths 1860 Quedlinburg e. V. and the Saxony-Anhalt State Sports Association. Over 600 elementary school children accepted the invitation. The aim of the ARAG Sport Challenge is to give children special access to physical fitness and club sports and also to promote integration and inclusion through sport. This year, pupils from two local special schools also enriched the field of participants.
